SPECIAL NOTE 10/25/20 – AMAZON PRINTING IS DOWN.  AWAITING THEIR RESUMPTION.

The reader will be thrilled to see images of original documents written centuries ago in Latin, Greek, Old English and Middle English and transcribed into modern English for you.

Witness the ups and downs of Christianity in England through the centuries. Behold the Lollard Knights protecting the commoners’ congregations. Cringe as the church-run governments burn our brothers and sisters in Christ at the stake.  Rejoice when translators of the Bible bring enlightenment to commoners who had been lied to regarding what was in the Bible.

Not until the eleventh century does England completely break away from paganism. But they still must contend with the pope who controls (or tries to) the world under threats that disobeyers will go to hell.  Rome has its finger in every pie, just as the earlier Roman Empire had. The church headquartered in Rome becomes big business and the CEOs in their palaces aren’t about to give up their high lifestyles.

Before denominations, it was natural to call the church the “Church of Christ” because that is what it is called in the Bible (Romans 16:16).  As you read, absorb the changes in tone of the writers through the decades and centuries.  Watch the New Testament raise the New Testament Church triumphantly, then witness it fall again as it has so many times beginning in Jerusalem where the church hardly exists anymore.

But take heart. The church always somewhere rises up again.  Always.
