Scripture for Friday, August 25 (8/25)

The scripture for today, August 25 (8/25), is John 8:25 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

0-REV-Cover-No Logo-KINDLE-medium” ‘Who are you?’ they asked. ‘Just what I have been claiming all along,’ Jesus replied.”

There are some things in the Bible we read over and over and never see the point. Perhaps we have been blinded by well-meaning religious leaders or family or friends who tell us over and over, “It doesn’t mean what it says.”

How many times does God have to tell us something in the Bible before we believe it? Once? A dozen times? A hundred times? Think about passages people tell you don’t mean what they say.  Look them up and re-read them.

These are the words of the God of the universe. Do we prefer that God fit our mold, or we fit God’s mold?

Scripture for Friday, August 18 (8/18)

The scripture for today, August 18 (8/18), is Mark 8:18f as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

00-cover-kindle-medium-new“Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember when I broke [in pieces] the five loaves for the five thousand [hungry people]? How many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”

Economic and political times are uncertain and unstable right now for a lot of people. Jobs may be hard to find.  Jobs are there, but you do not qualify for them. Your health is bad and now you cannot work.  Perhaps you have been hit by a sudden debt you see no way to pay.

How much do you worry about it? Planning is good. But worrying? Has God forsaken you in the past?

Sit down and make a list of every time you made it through a bad period of time in your life. How did God get you through it then? This is your proof.

Remember your proof.

Scripture for Sunday, July 16 (7/16)

The scripture for today, July 16 (7/16), is Genesis 7:16 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

0-THEY MET JESUS-Medium-front cover“The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in.”

Does your life sometimes feel like a downpour of unending bad events or a flood of tragedies? Whenever that happens, why not just enter an ark of safety and let God shut the door? When God shuts the door on something, try to recognize it and take advantage of its peace and quiet.

Our ark of safety is in our mind, our heart, our soul. Our ark of safety is quietness in Jesus.

“My heart is not proud, O Lord….But I have stilled and quieted my soul” (Psalm 131:1f)

“In quietness and trust is your strength” (Isaiah 30:15b)

“The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever” (Isaiah 32:17).

Scripture for Friday, March 3 (3/3)

campbell-cover-kindle-lg-mediumThe scripture for today, March 3, is Genesis 3:3 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

” ‘But God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it or you will die.’ “

This is a conversation Eve is having with Satan in the Garden of Eden. She was a little put out by God that he would withhold even one item from her. So, she misrepresented God. What God actually said was….

“You are free to eat from any tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” Eve had added to what God had said: “You must not touch it.”

Do we do that? When we get put out by someone, do we embellish a little and add a few little things to an event in order to make the other person look worse than s/he really is? Are we in the habit of making ourselves a victim so we can get other people’s sympathy and maybe get other people to act on our behalf?

1st Corinthians 13:5 says love does not keep a record of wrongs. If you have a feud going with someone, try breaking the cycle 1st Corinthians 13:7 says love protects, always trusts, always hopes. Bring hope back. Then keep hope alive.
