Should Sharia Law become part of America’s legal system?

In the past eight years, over 200 anti-Sharia laws have been introduced in most American states. Would it make any difference? After all, the Muslim motto declares “Islam is a religion of peace.”

How can anyone know?  There are so many rumors about what is included in Sharia Law.  The best way is to pick up a copy of the Qur’an or read it on the internet.  Here are eleven examples:

Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors.  And slay them wherever ye catch them and turn them out from where they have Turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith.  And fight them on until there is no more Tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah. but if they cease, Let there be no hostility except to those who practise [sic] oppression. [Surah 2:190-193]

“I will instil [sic] terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them.”   [Surah 8:12]

Unbelievers May attack you: For the Unbelievers are unto you open enemies. Unbelievers wish if ye were negligent of your arms and your baggage, to assault you in a single rush. [Surah 4:101-102]

Let not the believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, in nothing will there be help from Allah.  [Surah 3:28]

Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice. [Surah 4:3]

If any of you have not the means wherewith to wed free believing women, they may wed believing girls.  [Surah 4:25]

The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter.  [Surah 5:33]

As to the thief, Male or female, cut off his or her hands: a punishment by way of example, from Allah, for their crime: and Allah is Exalted in power.  [Surah 5:38]

The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides.  [Surah 5:33]

The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day  [Surah 24:2]

In Gardens of Felicity, facing each other on raised couches.  Round [sic] will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink.  Free from headlines; nor will they suffer intoxication.  And beside them will be chaste women [virgins], restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty).  [Surah 37:48]

“In all fairness,” says Katheryn Haddad who has taught English to over 6000 Muslims over the internet, “I do not think most Muslims know these things are in the Qur’an. They have the same human nature as people of all religions: They read snatches here and there of their holy book but have never read it through. Nominal Christians have never read the entire Bible.”

“I have shown some of these scriptures to a few of my Muslim students and they become very angry, even calling me a liar,” Katheryn says. “So I usually don’t get into it with them. It just stops all true communication after that.”

Ms. Haddad is the author of Christianity or Islam: The Contrast wherein she quotes from the Muslim holy book, then from the Christian holy book (Bible) on the same subjects.

“Many of my students, when they register, reassure me they are not like the extremists and do not approve of them. Actually, the extremists are the only ones who obey the Qur’an and its Sharia Law.  More and more Muslims are becoming embarrassed over their own religion.”
